Camp Aldershot is a military training centre that conducts year-round courses for regular Force personnel for Canada’s Department of National Defense (DND). Due to the nature of the camp’s operation, wastewater flows can vary from day to day and include wastewater from meal preparation, as well as wastewater from toilets and showers.

newterra was engaged by DND to supply a skid-mounted, pre-engineered wastewater treatment plant based on MicroClear™ flat-sheet submersible Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) technology to treat an average design flow rate of 151 m3/d (39,890 GPD). Beyond meeting the stringent selection criteria of the DND, newterra was the only company capable of providing a treatment system within the extremely tight, 6-week delivery schedulenewterra’s turnkey manufacturing capability coupled with excellent project management allowed the system to be pre-engineered, pre-assembled, pre-piped, pre-wired, and pre-tested for rapid deployment, start-up and operation. The company’s smart technology and  integrated process made this fast-track project a success. The modular system was installed in a building on the base and treated effluent from the system is discharged to the nearby camp surface water – Mill Pond. The plant was designed to meet the “Canada-wide Strategy for the Management of Municipal Wastewater Effluent” developed by the Canadian Council of Ministers of the Environment: BOD < 5 mg/L; TSS < 5 mg/L;  NH4-N < 1 mg/L;  TP < 1 mg/L and fecal coliform < 200 MPN/100 ml (after disinfection by UV.).
