System Implementation
The facility installed a comprehensive 900 GPM RO system, comprising two 450 GPM RO units, which work together to produce a total of 900 GPM of treated water. The system includes a duplex multimedia fi lter (MMF) for pretreatment, equipped with a dedicated feed pump skid to ensure consistent and reliable water quality. Additionally, a compressor was integrated to operate pneumatic valves, enhancing the system’s automation capabilities.
Highlights
Key highlights of the water reuse system include an impressive 80% recovery rate, which significantly reduces water waste. The dual MMF pretreatment ensures the feed water is adequately filtered before entering the RO units, optimizing the performance and lifespan of the RO membranes.
Accomplishments
The project was delivered with a complete engineering installation package and submittal, ensuring that all aspects of the installation were meticulously planned and executed. Custom automation control programming was developed to seamlessly integrate the water reuse system with the facility’s existing Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system, allowing for streamlined monitoring and management. Onsite commissioning by a dedicated service team ensured that the system was fully operational and fine-tuned to meet the facility’s needs.
Results
The system draws feed water from a well with a Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) level of approximately 1000 ppm and processes it to produce RO permeate with less than 5 ppm TDS. This high level of Purification ensures that the water used in the indoor agriculture facility is of exceptional quality, supporting optimal plant growth and health.
Conclusion
The indoor agriculture facility in Santa Maria successfully demonstrated the benefits of integrating a high-efficiency water reuse system. By achieving an 80% recovery rate and producing high-quality treated water, the facility not only enhanced its sustainability but also set a new standard for water management in indoor agriculture. This project highlights the potential for advanced water treatment technologies to drive efficiency and environmental stewardship in the agricultural sector.
