We Know Modular!
Newterra's modular water and wastewater systems are opening up new possibilities for decentralized water treatment with our prefabricated systems. In fact, our modular “plug & play” solutions can be located virtually anywhere and be scaled up and down in parallel with capacity requirements. Ideal for subdivisions, resorts, remote work camps – wherever a modular decentralized solution is required.
Newterra MBR Wastewater Treatment System For Bay Meadows Community
Newterra developed a modular membrane bioreactor (MBR) sewage treatment system for Bay Meadows Park – a year-round Mobile Home/RV Park in Ontario, Canada. Newterra was selected by Gunnell Engineering to provide a compact, self-contained treatment system to meet the extremely stringent limits required for surface discharge. The low maintenance system was engineered, built, installed and commissioned by Newterra in less than 20 weeks, and is allowing the park to expand the number of sites on its property. Recycling Wastewater – Cenovus, Foster Creek, AB
Newterra, designs, builds and delivers a modular packaged MBR plant for a 1,100 persons camp in Alberta. Effluent from the MBR plant is being recycled and reused for non-potable purposes.
Decentralization. When does it make sense?
During the 2018 BlueTech Forum, Newterra's Robert Kennedy discussed Decentralized Wastewater options with Chief Editor, Angela Godwin of WaterWorld. Robert Kennedy put the concept of decentralization into context, highlighting its historical journey, and offering insight into when going 'off-grid' makes sense. WaterWorld's BlueTech Forum is an annual day of learning and sharing for water industry leaders, entrepreneurs, innovators, end-users and investors, consisting of water technology briefings, project case studies, and thought-leadership panels. Newterra is proud to be included in symposiums and other critical water technology events like these.

Newterra Sound Attenuated Solutions
Newterra is a leading provider of groundwater and soil remediation solutions for a wide range of contaminants. These are often located in urban areas where noise bylaws require very low sound levels from treatment equipment. newterra offers quiet solutions that comply with such bylaws. Ep 18 Newterra Watertime Post
A Large Municipal customer in Ontario required an expedited solution to treat well water supplying a residential drinking water distribution system. Facing a possible supply shortage and reliance on only one other well, there was not enough time for a traditional design-bid-build process. Newterra was contracted to participate in a design-build process with the Municipality, their Consulting Engineer, and a general contractor who provided site preparation, utilities and the installation of the newterra process container. This alternative project process provided a much faster project turnaround. The single container treatment system supplied by newterra includes cartridge filtration and dual UV reactors to disinfect 10 l/sec of well water. The UV system provides a validated 4-log virus inactivation. Sodium Hypochlorite is added before the water is fed to distribution per Ontario regulations. The newterra PLC control system provides a fully automated treatment shutdown in the event of water quality or treatment process deviation using instrumentation brands and models selected by the Municipality, simplifying training and handover of the system to their licensed operators. Our customer recently presented a white paper on this project at a conference outlining how this expedited process helped them avert what could have been a significant supply issue.
Ep 8 Newterra Watertime Post
newterra’s superior design was key in securing this project at an extreme remote mining location, in the harsh conditions of Canada’s far North. Our customer required both sewage and drinking water treatment at a 400-man mining camp that was to be ramped up to capacity over one year. The modular MBR, or membrane biological reactor, wastewater treatment system is made up of 5 containers and utilizes newterra’s own Microclear® membranes. The potable water system utilizes greensand filtration and reverse osmosis membranes housed in 2 containers. Our technology and design was the preferred choice due to our vast in-house experience and track record across Northern Canada with other unique projects.
Ep 6 Newterra Watertime Post
A large mining company had previously purchased a Newterra wastewater treatment system for an 800-person camp in the far north region of Canada. Within the first few months of operation, they realized that they required a central point for all the sewage to be collected from the camp and vac trucks that would bring sewage in from remote sites around the camp. As they were very happy with the wastewater treatment system, they contacted Newterra for a solution. We were able to quickly provide them with this receiving station which consists of an epoxy coated carbon steel storage tank with inlets for both camp sewage as well as the vac trucks. The raw sewage is then sent to the main wastewater plant using duty stand by solids handling pumps. The receiving station required quick delivery, due to the short shipping season to the north, which Newterra was able to meet. We are proud to serve this satisfied repeat customer.
Newterra Modular Treatment Systems
With the high cost of infrastructure replacement and demands for more stringent environmental standards, Newterra modular treatment systems are driving the adoption of decentralized solutions. Our packaged sewage treatment plants minimize collection network requirements, reduce pumping costs, and deliver reuse quality effluent. Another important advantage they offer is scalability. It means a subdivision with multiple phases can be serviced by adding our modular treatment units to meet capacity requirements as they're needed. Revenues from taxes or user fees are in sync with capital investment, creating new options for public-private partnerships. For resorts, golf courses and other development projects that are out of economical reach of existing facilities, Newterra has proven solutions – compact, low maintenance potable water and sewage treatment systems
