Newterra’s Alexander Herrera Leads Key Discussions on Reverse Osmosis at Regional Workshop in Barbados

Bridgetown, Barbados – January 28, 2025
Earlier this year, Alexander Herrera—Regional Sales Manager at Newterra and active member of the Caribbean Desalination Association (CaribDA)—served as both keynote speaker and moderator at a high-profile reverse osmosis (RO) workshop hosted in Bridgetown, Barbados.

The one-day technical event, organized by CaribDA in collaboration with the Barbados Water Authority (BWA), brought together engineers, operators, and environmental experts from across the Caribbean to explore solutions to one of the region’s most pressing challenges: water scarcity.

With nearly 90% of Barbados’ potable water coming from groundwater and the remainder supported by desalination, RO plays a critical role in national water security. Discussions throughout the workshop emphasized the importance of reliable, efficient, and scalable RO systems—not only for Barbados, but for water-stressed island nations throughout the region.

As moderator, Alex helped guide panels covering membrane care, energy-efficient system design, concentrate management, and the integration of renewable energy with desalination systems. He also opened the event with remarks highlighting the power of regional collaboration and the practical innovations shaping water treatment today.

Newterra is proud to support the advancement of sustainable water solutions across the Caribbean and around the world. We’re especially proud of Alex’s leadership in this space and his continued work with CaribDA to promote technical excellence in desalination and water reuse.

If Newterra can be of support to you, let’s talk now.

Rain is the New Liability

Across much of North America, rainfall has become more than just a weather event. In regions like California, Oregon, British Columbia, and parts of the Northeastern U.S., regulators increasingly treat storms as compliance triggers. Industrial facilities are being held accountable for the quality of the water that leaves their sites—and the consequences of falling short are becoming more tangible.
